Using the extraordinary abilities of dogs to protect wildlife.
In a region where wildlife conservation is such an important part of everyday life, Luna Hounds is doing something remarkable: putting highly trained K9s at the heart of conservation.
Luna Hounds is a specialist K9 conservation organisation based in the Lowveld, working with dogs and their handlers to support wildlife protection and conservation efforts.
Their dogs are trained to use their extraordinary senses, intelligence, speed and ability to track and detect scents to assist conservation teams in a range of situations.
Dogs have an extraordinary ability to detect scents and follow trails that humans simply cannot.
When combined with specialised training and experienced handlers, these abilities can become an incredibly powerful conservation tool.
Luna Hounds uses this potential to support wildlife protection, helping conservation teams respond to threats and gather information that can assist in protecting vulnerable wildlife.
Their work demonstrates that conservation isn't always about fences, vehicles and technology.
Sometimes, it comes down to a highly trained dog, a skilled handler and an incredible partnership between the two.
The Power of The K9
Behind every working K9 is a significant investment in training, care and expertise.
Luna Hounds' work involves developing and maintaining highly trained dogs, supporting their handlers and ensuring that the K9 teams are equipped to perform their roles effectively.
It is a specialised field that requires dedication, resources and ongoing commitment.
And, ultimately, the work is about much more than the dogs themselves.
It is about protecting wildlife and helping safeguard the extraordinary natural environment we are fortunate enough to call home.
